Sytheciumevansi is a medium sized symmetrically branched (cf with the asymmetrical
Aglaophenia sp.) colonial hydroid. It was collected on the rhizomes of Posidonia oceanica.
An interesting feature of this hydroid (but not exclusive to it) is the community of
epibionthic diatoms living inside the thecae of the hydroid colony. This species is found in
the Mediterranean Sea as well as the Canary Islands.
This specimen was identified and described in detail (p. 187 & Fig. 4g) inthe following
paper published (2013) by Soto Àngel and Peña Cantero.
