Hydractina monocarpa is an Arctic species which was found in the Mediterranean for the first time. This species lives on prosobranch shells inhabited by a hermit crab. The hydroid feeds off debris created by the feeding hermit crab.

This species was identified by Soto Àngel and Peña Cantero in this paper (2013)
