The Algerian whip snake is a medium sized snake which is uncommon in the Maltese Islands. The body colour is brownish with alternate dark and light bands along the dorsal side, the bands fuse into a dark line near the tail. It is more common in North Africa and may have been accidentally introduced in Malta through shipping.
