Coprinellus disseminatus showing wide colour variations
Description: Small agaric, gregarious and fasciculate, occurring in large numbers, under or near Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis).
Pileus: Ovoid pileus, sometimes with flaring at the margin, coloured ochre to yellow brown at the centre but paler (pale ochre to greyish to white) towards the margin. Diameter 10 to 14mm wide, up to 9mm in height. Deeply sulcate but not splitting at the edges. Velar remnants on pileus flocculose. Setulae present.
Stipe:Cylindrical and straight, greyish white, fibrillose often transparent/glass like without colour change on cutting. Ring and volva absent, but whitish setulae are visible. Diameter 1- 1.5mm, 20-35mm in height.
Gills: Adnate, close to distant, greyish changing to black and with partial auto-digestion.
Spore Print: Purplish chestnut.

Pileipellis: Globular cells with large sphaerocysts.
Pileocystidia: Large lageniform with cylindrical neck and rounded apex. (10-16µm near the tip; 28µm at the rounded base; 92-130µm long).
Gill trama: Irregular with inflated rounded hyphae.
Cheilocystidia: Absent.
Pleurocystidia: Absent.
Caulocystidia: Present, lageniform with cylindrical neck and rounded apex, some cystidia were capitulate or swollen near the tip.(8-12µm near the tip; 105-162µm long).
Spores: Ellipsoid, smooth with small central germ pore (1.7-2.2µm). L=8.3-9.9µm; W=4.4-5.5µm; Q: 1.65-1.94, Qm:1.82.
