Cicada orni is a very common cicada found around the Maltese Islands. Is is best known or rather heard in the summer months when the quiet days are interupted by the constant calling songs (or incessant noise) made by the males of this species. These insects have two large eyes set on the sides and a pair of large wings. The noise is produces in the abdominal area by a set of tymbals.
