The Giant Reed (Arundo donax) is a common perennial plant which is found in valleys
where water is abundant, at least for most of the year. It can grow to over 6m in ideal
conditions. The leaves are alternate and are very close to the stem. The flowers are
visible at the very top of the plant and appear as a feathery plume. Large tough
rhizomes may be seen at the base of the plant and are often exposed.
