The Friar's Cowl (Arisarum vulgare) is a common plant with an unusual spathe containing the flowers. The leaves are arrow-shaped medium-sized and bright green. The spathe is pipe shaped brown to purple to green coloured. A greenish spadix protrudes from the spathe and appears like a thin tongue.
