The Agaricaceae is a large family of small to medium sized agarics. Spore colours range white to dark brown and
black.
Recent DNA studies have shown that many genera which were previously placed in other families
(Tulostomataceae, Lycoperdaceae, Lepiotaceae and Coprinus s.s. from Coprinaceae) were closer to the
Agaricaceae and many genera have been added into this family e.g. Coprinus s.s., Lycoperdon and related genera.
These addition have made the definition of the family rather broad.
